BMW F01 7 Series Transmission Jerking and Sticking

As one of its flagship models, in 2009, BMW introduced the F01 7 series. With superior handling and a high-performance engine, this vehicle has everything for the tech-savvy driver. And unfortunately, this luxury vehicle has a handful of common problems as the car racks up some miles. One common problem is that the transmission jerks and sticks.

Many drivers of the F01 7 series and the longer-chassis F02 7 series report they have experienced transmission problems, and some have reported total transmission failure. The drivers complain that the vehicle shifts very rough, so much so that anyone in the vehicle actually gets jerked around in their seats. In a few very rare cases, the driver was actually injured when they downshifted the vehicle from second to first gear.

A few of the other problems reported by drivers are that their F01 7 series will get stuck in second or third gear, but when they stop and restart the car, it resumes proper function. In other cases, drivers have reported the vehicle not shifting into reverse, or refusing to go over 35 MPH (despite high RPMS). Sometimes, the vehicle may even lose traction or go into “limp mode.” These problems occur mostly in the Sport models, but it is not exclusive to the Sport models.

What precautions are you taking during COVID-19 to ensure the health of your staff and customers?

✅ We keep a super clean shop, but we have kicked things up. We have completely disinfected our building with a hospital-grade disinfectant, which we are doing 3 times per day. We disinfect the surface area of every vehicle that we go in. We sterilize every piece of mail and received parts as each arrives. All of our staff are required to wear gloves and masks so please don’t be scared if you come to the shop. These measures are necessary to ensure we stay healthy for you and our families.
✅ We are now offering courtesy pick-up and drop-off services, excluding oil changes and FREE Vehicle Health Checks. Charges apply over 25 miles ($1.50 per mile).
✅ You must have an appointment. When you arrive for your appointment, pull up to the cones or park in a parking spot in the adjacent lot (white building). After parking, place keys in the blue dropbox.
✅ All inspections, estimates, approvals, payments will all be handled digitally. No cash will be accepted at this time.
✅ Upon completion of work and time for pickup, we will call you to see if you want to pick up your car or if you would like to arrange a dropoff.
✅ When your vehicle is complete, we will call you to coordinate pickup at our shop or we can dropoff to you. If you are picking up, we will text you a code so you can retrieve your keys from a secure lockbox once you arrive on site.
