The BMW 5 series F-10 was introduced in the US in 2010 and continues production today of the 5 Series Sedan, xDrive and Wagon/Touring variations, and even some hybrids. Just like all kinds of technologically advanced luxury cars, there are a few common problems that owners continue to identify. Some models of the f-10 5 series are known to have a drivetrain malfunction. This affects the speed and power of this high-performance vehicle.

When the car reaches high-mileage, it is expected to lose a little of its get up and go, but since the F-10 has been on the market a few years, these vehicles should be driving like they did when they were new. Unfortunately, a few drivers complain about a noticeable, occasional loss of power. Sometimes when they drive, the car will perform as a new BMW 5 series should, but other times the car will be sluggish and it will hesitate. There doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason as to when the vehicle will perform okay and when it will not.

Some drivers report they can cure the malfunction by turning off the car and re-starting it. It is important to note this is a quick-fix, and will not address the root cause. There could be a number of reasons your car is losing power, though a malfunctioning drivetrain is a common problem identified by our BMW repair technicians. Obviously, if the “Drivetrain Malfunction” light is on, that is the simplest way to know. Because this light does not always illuminate when there IS a problem with the drivetrain, and in some cases, the light will come on when there is NOT a drivetrain problem, it is important to have the issue checked out by a professional.

In a very few number of cases, drivers of the F10 5 series have noticed this problem only happens during short trips. This is why some BMW technicians believe the battery is the issue, not the drive train. It is best to take your vehicle to a local BMW mechanic at Bavarian RennSport to properly inspect your vehicle and have it repaired as needed.
