Available in the United States from 2004-2010, the BMW X3 is also known as the e83. This was the first generation of the BMW X3, and it has been cleverly called a Sport “Activity” vehicle. Because it has all-wheel-drive, the X3 is built with a transfer case, which assists in moving power from the transmission to the rear and front axles. Like all new things, the X3 has been known to have transfer case problems, especially in the ones released in the first two years, 2004 and 2005.

Many X3 owners have reported a “whining” noise that appears after the vehicle reaches around 10,000 miles. Usually, this is caused by old belts or deteriorating front bearings. An old serpentine belt can make a whining noise too. Since this issue was first discovered in the ‘04 and ‘05 models while they still had low miles, it’s a good chance this is a common problem for the X3.

In order for all-wheel-drive vehicles to work properly, the transfer case is vital, and if you don’t repair it, it can lead to transmission issues. Both the transmission and the transfer case are expensive and they take time to repair. Some owners try to prolong the life of their X3’s transfer case by changing the fluid every 10,000 miles. Changing the fluid can become expensive too, and this is a workaround that does not prevent the problem.

What precautions are you taking during COVID-19 to ensure the health of your staff and customers?

✅ We keep a super clean shop, but we have kicked things up. We have completely disinfected our building with a hospital-grade disinfectant, which we are doing 3 times per day. We disinfect the surface area of every vehicle that we go in. We sterilize every piece of mail and received parts as each arrives. All of our staff are required to wear gloves and masks so please don’t be scared if you come to the shop. These measures are necessary to ensure we stay healthy for you and our families.
✅ We are now offering courtesy pick-up and drop-off services, excluding oil changes and FREE Vehicle Health Checks. Charges apply over 25 miles ($1.50 per mile).
✅ You must have an appointment. When you arrive for your appointment, pull up to the cones or park in a parking spot in the adjacent lot (white building). After parking, place keys in the blue dropbox.
✅ All inspections, estimates, approvals, payments will all be handled digitally. No cash will be accepted at this time.
✅ Upon completion of work and time for pickup, we will call you to see if you want to pick up your car or if you would like to arrange a dropoff.
✅ When your vehicle is complete, we will call you to coordinate pickup at our shop or we can dropoff to you. If you are picking up, we will text you a code so you can retrieve your keys from a secure lockbox once you arrive on site.
