The BMW X5 e70 hit the US market in 2007. Ending its run in 2013, it was the successor to the X5 e53 and was a second generation SUV Crossover vehicle. The e70 came equipped with numerous high-tech safety features including a rear and top-view camera perfect for tight parallel parking and reversing. The cameras give the driver clear sight of everything around the vehicle just from viewing the display mounted on the dashboard. There are times, however, that drivers experience problems with the rear-view and top-view camera malfunctioning.
The most common reported issue is to receive an error message when there is no apparent problem with the rear view or top view cameras. When they start their BMW a message will come on the screen saying “rear view camera malfunction,” but the video image will still come through without any apparent problems. This can be caused from the connectors not being seated properly or they could have a short.
One possible issue that could be causing the cameras to malfunction could be from the fasteners that hold the camera in place. In many cases, the fasteners might become loose or fail completely, which will cause the camera to point in awkward directions or straight down towards the concrete. To fix this, the fasteners will need to be properly tightened, and the camera will need to be re-calibrated to ensure it has accurate positioning. While you could do this at home, this should be done by a professional at our shop if you want optimum results.
