BMW e60 5 Series Fuel Related Issues

From 2004-2010, BMW distributed the BMW e60 5 series in the United States. This included 5 series models like the sedan, station wagon, and high-performance M5. BMW built these Bimmers with advanced safety features and in-dash technology, which made the 5 series the most popular luxury car on the market. Even the best cars can sometimes have a few flaws. In this case, the BMW e60 has some fuel related issues which can have a negative effect on performance or cause damage to the engine.
In the early years of the model, the e60, specifically the 535i, had issues with fuel injector failures. When one or two of the fuel injectors fail, it causes fluctuations in engine performance and MPG. BMW service centers started installing newly designed fuel injectors to replace the old ones, but since there was a new design and there are no incompatibility issues, all six of the fuel injectors have to be replaced at the same time.
Lower MPG performance can also be attributed to a faulty thermostat in your Bimmer. In this case, the car will think it is running cold, so the engine will produce higher output which decreases the MPG. This problem can be fixed by a software update or it might be necessary to replace the entire thermostat. If you notice a lower than normal MPG performance or “engine lagging,” visit an independent BMW repair specialist at Bavarian Rennsport to properly diagnose the problem.
An additional fuel related issue common with the five-series is a defective high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP), most often reported in the model 535i. If this happens to your can, the engine will surge or lag, and sputter when you drive high speeds. This is very dangerous.
