Common Porsche Dashboard Lights: What Do They Mean?

Common Porsche Dashboard Lights: What Do They Mean?

By Bavarian Rennsport – The Euro & Exotic Auto Experts in Jacksonville, FL

Whether you drive your Porsche only on weekends or use it as your daily vehicle, dashboard lights are important. These lights are not just suggestions—they're signals that something in your vehicle needs checking, whether it's a minor fix or something more serious. At Bavarian Rennsport in Jacksonville, FL, we specialize in Porsche repairs and help you understand exactly what these lights mean.

First, pay attention to the color of the light:

  • Red lights mean something needs urgent attention.
  • Amber or yellow lights mean something might need to be checked soon.

Yellow / Amber Warning Lights

Check Engine Light
This light looks like the outline of an engine. It could mean anything from a loose gas cap to a problem with your emissions system or engine. It requires diagnostics, so bring your vehicle to Bavarian Rennsport for a full inspection. This may also come on when Factory Scheduled Maintenance is due.

ABS Warning Light
This light shows the letters “ABS” inside a circle. It tells you there’s a problem with your anti-lock braking system. Your brakes may still work, but the safety system that prevents skidding might not.

TPMS Light
This is your Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The light looks like a flat tire with an exclamation mark. It usually means one or more of your tires is low on air. When you come in for an Intermediate Oil Change Service, we always check your tire pressure.

Traction Control Light
This light means your traction or stability system is active—or possibly malfunctioning. It’s best to have it inspected if the light stays on.

Low Fuel Warning
This light looks like a gas pump. It means you're running low on fuel and should fill up soon.

Red Warning Lights

Engine Temperature Warning
This light looks like a thermometer in water. It means your engine is overheating. You should turn off the A/C, turn the heat on full blast, and safely pull over. Let the engine cool down and bring your car to Bavarian Rennsport as soon as possible. Overheating can seriously damage your engine.

Battery Light
This symbol looks like a car battery. It may indicate a battery issue, a charging problem, or something wrong with the alternator. If ignored, your car might not start.

Oil Pressure Warning
This light looks like an oil can. It means the oil pressure is too low, which could damage your engine. Check your oil level right away. If it’s low, top it off. If the light doesn’t go off, bring it to The Euro & Exotic Auto Experts at Bavarian Rennsport. We use Liqui Moly oils, which help protect your engine, but it’s important to maintain proper oil pressure.

Brake System Warning
You may see a circle with an exclamation point inside it or just the word “Brake.” This could mean your parking brake is on, your brake fluid is low, or there is a more serious brake system issue. Don’t ignore it—have it checked immediately.

Airbag Warning
This symbol looks like a person sitting with a circle in front of them. It’s normal to see this when you start your car, but if it stays on, there may be a problem with the airbag system. This means your airbags may not work in an accident, so it’s a safety risk that should be addressed right away.

Stay on Top of Maintenance

Knowing what these dashboard lights mean helps you keep your Porsche running well and keeps you safe. Always follow your Factory Scheduled Maintenance, and if you’re a frequent driver, consider getting an Oil Change Service to help your engine last longer.
