BMW e65/e66 7 Series Rough Idling and Stalling

Does your e65 or e66 7 Series have an issue with rough idling or stalling? We can help! We specialize in affordable BMW service in Jacksonville, FL.

In 2002, the BMW e65 and e66 7 Series was first introduced in the United States. It replaced the popular e38, and debuted an updated body style. BMW ended production of the e65 and e66 7 Series in 2009, so many of these unique BMWs are still on the road today. Idling and stalling is one of the common problems associated with the e65 and e66 7 series.

The 7 series has several chassis variations, which includes the e65 short-wheel chassis and the e66 long-wheel chassis. There are also the lesser known bulletproof e67 and hydrogen e68 models. The rough idling and stalling issues impact the popular e65 and e66 consumer versions, happening with as few as 2000 miles on the odometer.

Drivers complain the vehicle would shake and surge, and they would be unable to reach speeds higher than 30 or 35 mph. The Service Engine light may also illuminate and the acceleration may also be lethargic. In some cases, the problem can be solved temporarily by simply shutting off the car, letting all the systems reset, and then restarting the car.

This problem is usually most apparent in the morning, which can be normal in some vehicles especially when you are in colder climates, but with the numerous complaints about this issue, it is likely there is something more complex going on. Especially, when the rough idling is also noticed by drivers who are traveling on the highway at high speeds. Another common issue among drivers experiencing rough idling or stalling is that it occurs most often when the car in Manual Mode rather than when it is in Sport Mode.

Another reason is that some of the e65 and e66 vehicles may not be “firing on all cylinders,” but it is important to take the vehicle to a nearby German auto expert like Bavarian RennSport to have it properly diagnosed. We are able to repair some vehicles by replacing the ignition coil or fixing the misfires, but once again, it is best to have it looked at by an independent BMW mechanic like one at our shop to find out the real reason for idling and stalling.

Bavarian RennSport is a local, independent BMW repair shop that offers affordable BMW service in Jacksonville, FL. Book your diagnostic online today!
