BMW e63/e64 6 Series Steering Issues

Does your e63 or e64 6 Series have steering issues? We can help! Bavarian Rennsport offers the most affordable BMW repairs in Jacksonville, FL.

BMW sold the e63 and e64 6 series in the United States for 7 years from 2005-2012. This marked the second iteration of the popular 6 series and was available as a coupe or a convertible. As with all BMWs, the 6 series features exceptional engine performance and superior handling. Unfortunately, some of the vehicles experience a variety of steering issues.

One of the common issues owners have reported is that the Active Steering Fault light comes on when there is no obvious reason for it to be on. The car will continue to function normally. When this happens, the first thing to do is to check the power steering fluid. If it isn’t full, we recommend to top-off the power steering fluid to see if it solves the issue. Replacing a dying battery could be another simple solution. Have it checked to determine if it needs to be replaced.

A defective Active Steering Control module could be another cause. This hardware has been known to go out in some BMWs. The fault light has been known to come on after your alignment has been adjusted by a service center that isn’t accustomed to working on BMWs. After an alignment, the steering angle sensor in your BMW needs to be reset. You might be able to solve your issue by having the active steering sensor initialized by a BMW professional repair center like Bavarian RennSport. You need not visit a dealership, a certified BMW mechanic at our repair shop can do the job.

The most serious cause of steering issues problem could be complete failure of the Active Steering Racks. When these fail, the car will become very “heavy” to handle and you will have extreme difficulty turning the wheel. Owners typically report this along with a whining noise or loud moaning.

If your vehicle experiences any of these problems, contact our nearby BMW repair shop to have your car fixed. If the issues are ignored, these could end up affecting the transmission and will be very costly to repair if you neglect it.
