From the weekend toy to your daily driver, those glowing icons on your Porsche’s instrument cluster are your first line of defense against small repairs and serious failures. They flash or stay lit to flag anything from routine maintenance needs to urgent problems. Our Porsche Master Technicians at our shop in Jacksonville, FL, put together this overview of some of the common warning lights so you can be prepared.
Color is your first clue. Red signals something critical that needs immediate attention. Amber or yellow means use caution and get it checked soon. Each icon has a specific job. If you see an icon, your first step, take a picture of the icon. This way if it goes away, you have the picture for reference later if you need it. Second, contact us to schedule an appointment for a diagnostic, call or text 904-270-9390 .
Check Engine
Engine-shaped icon. Could be anything from emissions faults to a loose gas cap, so tighten that first. If that doesn’t fix the issue, you will need a diagnostic so click here to book an appointment with our Porsche experts.
ABS Warning
“ABS” inside a circle. Indicates an issue in the anti-lock braking system. This necessitates an in-depth diagnostic from the experts at Bavarian Rennsport.
TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)
Flat tire symbol with an exclamation point. Usually means low tire pressure. Check and inflate, then reset the system. If this doesn’t fix the issue, click here to schedule a diagnostic for your TPMS.
Traction Control
Car with squiggly lines behind it. A stability or traction control fault, or it might simply be active. The master mechanics at Bavarian Rennsport are skilled at diagnosing these faults.
Low Fuel
Fuel pump icon. Time to find a gas station soon. Running out of has in a German Car is especially dangerous. Special gas types make staying on top of this a priority.
Engine Temperature
Thermometer over waves. The engine is overheating. Kill the A/C, crank the heat, shut off accessories, then pull over safely and let it cool. Then give the experts at Bavarian Rennsport a call.
Battery/Charging System
Battery icon. Could be alternator, wiring, or the battery itself. Our Porsche technicians can test the battery and alternator to see if it has failed and replace it if needed. It is important to note that most modern Porsche models require coding or registration. Failing to register the battery in your Porsche can lead to improper charging issues, lower lifespan on the battery, and glitches with the electronic system. If you think you might need a new battery or alternator, or you are having issues with your Porsche’s battery keeping a charge, click here to schedule an appointment.
Oil Pressure
Dripping oil is exceptionally damaging. Low oil pressure can destroy an engine. Check the level and top off. If it stays lit, schedule service.
Brake System
Exclamation point in a circle or the word “Brake.” Could mean the parking brake is on, brake fluid is low, or a system fault. Schedule service at Bavarian Rennsport today to get it taken care of.
Airbag Warning
Person with a circle in front. It is normal at startup, but if it stays lit there is a fault and the bag might not deploy. Call us immediately and get this critical saftey issue resolved.
Understanding these icons protects both performance and safety. For more warning lights that aren’t listed here, your owner’s manual lists every symbol for your specific model and how severe each is.
