One of the best things about owning the shark-styled BMW e63/e64 6-series coupe, is cruising with the top-down on a beautiful day. This sleek car was sold in the United States from 2004 to 2011. The convertible was very popular. Unfortunately, many owners encounter convertible roof malfunctions.
Owners report that they close their top like normal in the evening, but in the morning when they start the car, the dashboard shows an error saying the top isn’t locked. After checking the top, they discover it is tight and secure, however, the warning still shows. Some of the other issues that occur at the same time include unresponsive windows that won’t roll up or down, a trunk that doesn’t open, and/or the date and time are reset on the dashboard. Another reason could be a faulty sensor in the top frame of the convertible top. This sensor monitors the angle and rotation of the top and talks to the tension bar. In extreme heat, this is known to fail. The rotation sensor was actually the subject of a BMW technical service bulletin. After parking, place keys in blue dropbox at the first door on the warehouse.
